생을 마감하기 1달 전 그가 말년을 보낸 파리 근처의 오베르 쉬르 우아즈에서 그린 작품으로 아침과 저녁, 맑을 때와 흐릴 때, 기온이 높고 낮음에 따라 오묘하게 변하는 색상과 요철(凹凸)의 변화를 형상화한 것으로 고흐의 천재성과 광기가 느껴지는 우수한 작품이다. 그러면 어떻게 이 그림이 한국에 있을까? 1950년대 말 서씨의 돌아가신 아버지가 외국인으로부터 선물 받은 그림으로 고미술품을 좋아하던 그의 아버지는       별다른 관심을 갖지 않고 다른 소장품과 창고에 넣어 두었다. 1998년 서씨는 아버지가 사망 후 각종 그림을 정리하다가 그림뒤편에 푸쉬킨 박물관의 표식을 발견하고는 일본으로 가서 감정한 후에 세계적인 명화임을 알게 됐다. 감정 과정에서 일본의 고흐 전문가들에게 작품이 공개되면서 소장가가 한국인이라는 소문이 떠돌기 시작했고, 화가이자 고흐 연구가인 일본의 미유 유타카는 이 그림의 감정서에 "99.99% 고흐가 그린 수채화가 맞다”고 확인했다.
